PEE WEE RED SOX 8 - TWINS 7

Well, it was our first baseball game tonight as Dustin coaching and the RED SOX WON! It started out a little rocky but the boys did great and pulled off the big win!! Jayce struck out once and made it to 3rd the other two times that he hit but our team got 3 outs before he could get home! DARN IT!! This coaching thing isn't as easy as I thought it would. I tried so hard to keep it all organized and orderly but it was a big cluster tonight! And on top trying to get the kids ready to bat, getting the catcher's gear on and off, waiting on the boys to get back from the bathroom...I had to be the scorekeeper too!! UM, didn't have a clue what I was doing but one of the kid's grandma was nice enough to give me a quick lesson. Funny thing is that the other team was trying to say that we only have 7 runs so it would have been a tie but their scorekeeper had less of a clue as to what was going on than I did so I won that battle!!
Our schedule for the week:
Mon = baseball game
Tues= baseball practice
Wed= soccer practice
Thurs=baseball game
Fri=what...no games or practice?? what will we do?
Sat=baseball game & soccer practice
Sun=soccer game
Sounds fun doesn't it?? Jayce is going to be exhausted! He might have to maybe just play soccer in the fall and baseball in the spring...two sports at once is madness!! And to think I was going to throw golf into the mix right now too! Glad I opted not to! I'm thinking about maybe getting him private golf lessons this summer because both soccer & baseball end the 1st week of June so what is he suppose to do all summer??

KC

We had a GREAT time in Kansas City last week. It's pretty rare that it is just the three of us, so it was good, quality bonding time! At one point, I asked Jayce if he was getting sick of just being around his dad and I and he said "No, because if I said YES, that would be mean!" hmmm....so I take that to mean yep, he was getting tired of just us!! We left on Thursday and came back on Sunday. We ate at a lot of GREAT places...if you are ever in KC, we highly suggest you visit Hereford House. It's a steakhouse and their food was amazing!! Dustin wants to drive to KC just to go to dinner there! We also went to Crown Center and the Plaza (however Dustin wouldn't let me out of the car at the Plaza!) TORTURE!! It was pretty cold and it was packed due to the NCAA basketball tournament being in town (side note: speaking of basketball, I'm in FIRST in the brackets in the pool at work...no idea how! I just randomly picked!) We took Jayce to a family fun center place and we bowled and played mini golf. Jayce got to swim every night at our hotel. It was a good time and I think we will try to do little trips like that more often. We have already started saving our change again! We had a big, empty, Jack Daniels' bottle that we kept telling Jayce that once we got it filled, we would take a vacation. We had close to $200 in the bottle just in change and we haven't been really saving our change for that long!!

I picked Jayce up from school today and his Principal cornered me and said that she is going to create a special group of just 4 1st graders to help challenge the advanced kids. She said she really wants Jayce to be in the group and asked if I would be okay with that?!? UM, HECK YES!!! This is what I have wanted them to do ALL year long so he would actually be challenged!!!! She is going to have the group of Jayce and 3 other students meet EVERYDAY!! THANK GOD!!!! I told her that I have tried talking to his teacher about giving Jayce special assignments or doing something more geared towards his abilities and gotten nowhere. I'm really excited about this and Jayce will be too! He loves to learn & be challenged! He gets in trouble for talking when the teacher is talking...well duh, it is because he already knows what she is teaching!! I have told her this MULTIPLE times too! YEAH...I'm so excited!!! Too bad there is only 2 months of school left but oh well, maybe if this group meeting daily works out, it will continue NEXT year!!

Conferences

Dustin and I went to conferences tonight. Same story everytime. Academically, Jayce is AWESOME!! Best at everything in his class...math, reading, writing, etc. He is reading at a level M which is where he should be reading at the END of 2nd grade but she also said that Jayce can read anything they put in front of him so he is probably at a higher level but they didn't test him any higher because the content of the books at the higher levels gets a little deep for 1st graders....WHAT?? If he is able to read at a higher level, I think his brain is probably able to de-code the deep context of 3rd grade level books! We always hear the same thing that Jayce likes to talk over the teacher and the kids focus on Jayce. Well, maybe if they were ACTUALLY teaching Jayce something he didn't already know, then he would listen. But when they are teaching stuff that he already knows, he doesn't need to listen. I'm not saying it is ok that he talks when the teacher is talking but I have discussed with her several times about different things that I think she could try to actually CHALLENGE him and he wouldn't talk so much but she doesn't listen! My child LOVES to learn and if he is working on something he doesn't know...he is very focused and concentrates but when they are counting from 1 to 100 in 1st grade (which he has been doing for years), yes, he is going to be a distraction! I'm a little frustrated if you can't tell but I don't know what to do about it!
It's Spring Break and I'm still trying to figure out where we can go next Thursday-Sunday. I'm thinking we might just go to Kansas City. Jayce hasn't been there since he was 2 I don't think.

AGH

So Jayce is feeling better but Dustin has been sick since Thursday and I am starting to feel like crap too...sore throat, chills, headache. I think it's just an AWFUL cold so I'm trying to fight it off before it gets any worse. We'll see!
Jayce got to go see Toby Keith in concert last weekend and he had a GREAT time! It was his first concert at a big arena and he really seemed to love it!! He was singing along and dancing to the music! Can't wait until Jayce is singing in those big arenas!! :o}
We went to two Iowa Chops hockey games this past weekend. We are becoming big fans of the Iowa Chops (even though they USUALLY lose when we go to the games). Jayce enjoys watching the games most of the time.
Spring break is coming up. Our trip to Denver is a no go now (long story) so I'm trying to figure out somewhere that is fairly close that we could go to. Lots of places/hotels are already sold out since it is a spring break week. Hopefully, we will figure something out to do.
